Hello Everyone ... Mom & Kelly here

The last couple of days has been trial and error for Donna with pain medication and anti-nausea drugs.

Yesterday Donna had an ultra-sound on her legs to check for clots due to the fluid build up, they say there is no alarm with this ... it's just something that happens with chemo so she is being given hepburn twice per day.

She was able to keep down a number of cups of tea with LOTS of sugar and some sherbert. Around 10:00pm she started getting nausea last night (her belief was a candy) but she still needed her her 2:00pm stroll through the "Mall" in the hospital ... always the socialite.

This morning her Potassium was critically low ... she was give 2 bags ... enough to get her back in line and her oxygen and blood counts were fine.

This afternoon she was given a pic line so she could receive TPN a nutrition and vitamin supplement ... Donna calls this her Kahlua & Milk. Her blood pressure has been up for most of the afternoon and temperature is up this evening and the nursing staff continues to monitor this. She has received and antibiotic and regular Tylenol and seems to be resting.

Dad has been filling in a care-giver most of the afternoon, at one point when Mom came in the room Donna was back in bed with a smile on her face, replying "Dad put me back into bed, I don't think he has ever tucked me in before" ... mom said "Well, you were never in home at night when Dad went to bed" ... LOL.

Last night and tonight again I, Kelly will once again be her roommate for the night ... someone had to make sure she gets through the "Mall" at 2:00am. Mom and Dad spend the day with her and will be hotelling again tonight and will be back in the morning

Dr. Ahmad (Oncologist) was in to see her today and has ordered a CT scan & the usual blood work for tomorrow ... and will be treating the symptoms and getting the nausea under control ... we are glad that he is back from holidays.

Holy ... Donna just strolled down the hall with Dad and found Mom and I working on her Blog, here we thought Dad the super caregiver was letting her rest ... she said the she was not going fast enough down the hall so Dad took here IV pole, she had no choice but to keep up. LOL

We are hoping her energy level will be better tomorrow now that she is recieving TPN and will keep you posted.

P.S. Happy Birthday Jullian.

Hello Everyone this is Kelly & Mom with the latest update.

February 17 - Donna started throwing up again off and on all day, mom and dad were there for a visit and felt that she was dehydrated again and offered to take her to emergency for IV but she was not ready to go so she took some gravol and water, this did not stay down. At 6:30pm she finally agreed to go to emergency and after a long wait she was taken to a room and administered 2 bags of Sodium Chloride, gravol, anti nausea drug and a pain killer. After tolerating water for 1 hour they were able to take her back home and was told to go to the cancer clinic on Tuesday, February 19 for an ultra sound and to have the fluid drained off her enlarging abdomen.

February 19 - Donna went to the Cancer Clinic for blood tests and ultra sound, due to the amount of fluid they were unable drain the fluid, she was given fluid pills and sent home.

February 21 - This was to be her next round of Chemo where Colleen met her at the Cancer Clinic to spend the day with her. After not keeping much down in the past 3 weeks, her Oncologist being on holidays it was decided to remove the 24/7 Chemo cylinder and not to have her schedule Chemo treatment for that day. Since her abdomen had been enlarging for sometime she had 3.5 liters of fluid drained. She was happy to go home and be unattached to her Chemo cylinder and to be able to get her energy back.

February 22 - When she talked to mom she was complaining about cramps but was all excited to be going shopping with Colleen, but Colleen came down with a sore throat and cold overnight she did not want to expose Donna, therefore Donna spent the day resting at home.

February 23 - Donna MacDonald call her on Saturday and went over for tea, she found Donna once again not tolerating food and having diarrhea and cramps. She offered to take her to emergency where she was given 2 more bags of Sodium Chloride, gravol. Donna M stayed with her and kept informing our family as to what was happening and at midnight she was back home. Thanks so much for being there Donna M. you truly a great and caring friend.

February 24 - Darren called mom and dad to say that Bonnie Nemeth took Donna to the hospital. Mom, Dad and Brenda arrive at the hospital at 3:00pm and was told that Donna was still in emergency and Bonnie still sitting with Donna, neither of them had anything to eat. Thanks Bonnie, another truly great and caring friend. Later Donna was admitted for more Sodium Chloride, graval, anti nausea drugs and a pain killer. This was to be her enjoyable Chemo free weekend, not the case ...

February 25 - Donna blood test came back, nothing alarming all is fine and she had another x-ray but no sign of a blockage, still she cannot keep anything down and still seem to have fluid building. In talking with her this evening the pain killer that they are giving her is really knocking her out but she still has pain. Donna has also requested TPX which is a nutrient and vitamin IV ... hopefully she will get her way and they will start her on this, she definitely needs nutrition and vitamins to continue on this battle to beat the cancer. Donna M spent has been spending from 4pm to 8pm with Donna and says that she mostly sleeps but enjoys just having someone with her. Darren was to give her a chariot ride in the wheelchair through the hospital as soon as he arrive ... she maybe in the hospital but still needs her outings.

Donna would also like to Thank Lori-ann Earis for coming into the city, they went to the Cancer Centre for the Feel Good Session and out for supper ... Donna said it was awesome and she came home with great cosmetics, it was nice to just be out there again.

Till our next posting keep our Sister/Daughter in your prayers.

Febuary 21, 2008

Hi To All,
Well I'm still keeping up the fight. The past few weeks have not been so great! I have been in & out of the hospital. Thank You Brenda for being there with me! They finnaly have the right anti nausea medication but now I am holding fluid. They have put me on some fluid pills and if that does'nt work they will have to drain it off. I look like I'm 6 months pregnant and the pressure is making me very uncomfortable. Lets pray they work! I have my next 3 week session of chemo today I sure hope it goes better than the last. My sister Colleen is coming in from Humboldt to see me through this one until mom feels better she has some kind of bug. Thanks Colleen and to you all for your support & prayers.
On a lighter note Junell started walking last week. She is so precious. I love her so much it has been real hard not to have the energy to spend with her. It takes my all to get exited about her acomplishments and to play with her for a few minutes at a time. Hopefully once I get this fluid under control I will have a better nights sleep and my energy will come back. Daddy is hanging in there! It is pretty hard on him at times taking care of both of us. He has really stepped up to the plate. It helps a lot when some of our freinds come for a visit it breaks his monotony of all this. Thank You!
Keep Praying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love Donna

Hello Everyone this is Kelly

Donna got out of the hospital Wednesday, very tired but all hydrated.

Thursday she had to have her chemo syringe refilled, this is at a very slow drip that she will be wearing 24/7 for 5 months, not the original 21 days that she was told and will need to be refilled every 7 days. When and I got to her house she was very tired and just wanted to sleep. About 15 minutes after we got to the Cancer Clinic she started throwing up, so they gave her a bag of anti-nausea medication, she felt better and had a small supper.

Friday she called me at my conference to take her to her Oncologist cause she started vomiting again. He did blood work, x-rays, bag of potassium and fluids. She was admitted into the hospital where she is still tonight until they find the right anti-nausea drug that works and she is able to keep foods down.

She is awfully bored and would like visitor but we ask that you limit your visits to a maximum of 30 minutes or less. Please pay attention to how her energy level is and if she is tired please just let her have her rest.
